Student Cell Phone Use in HISD

Student Cell Phone Use in HISD

Calling all Ram Nation Students!  Beginning August 12, 2025, no cellphones are allowed to be visible during the school day at Waltrip or any other HISD campus.  This also includes headphones, earbuds, and i-watches. This electronics update will be enforced during the entire school day, including during passing periods and during lunches.

Please read the following statement from HISD for more information.

Dear HISD Families,

We want to share an important update regarding student cell phone use in schools.

The Texas Legislature recently passed House Bill 1481, which requires all public school districts to prohibit student use of wireless communications during the school day.

HISD’s existing guidelines for campuses already place a limit on cell phone use during the school day to help minimize distractions and keep the focus on learning. We are still waiting on the new guidelines from the Texas Education Agency, and HISD will work to ensure our practices align with the new law.

Please partner with us in supporting a focused and respectful learning environment as we work to align to this recent legislature. Your involvement makes a big difference.

We’ll be sharing more information with families and campuses soon as we continue to align with HB 1481. Thank you for your support.
