Early Checkout Reminder
When a student is checked out at the front office during the school day, their absence is not excused by you signing them out. They will still need to bring in a note from their appointment they were signed-out for.
Attendance Acknowledgment
Attendance Policy at Waltrip High School for the 2023/24 school year: Missing more than 10 percent (or 17 days) of a school year can lead to a student not receiving a grade and it being noted on the report card as a No Grade (NG). More importantly, it represents lost time required by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the classroom, and a lost opportunity to learn. At Waltrip, the attendance office will limit handwritten notes for excused absences to three (3) notes per semester. Excuse notes must be turned into the attendance office within three (3) days of an absence, and all doctor's notes will be subject to verification. For additional information and state attendance laws, contact the HISD School district.
90% Rule
Students earn course credits by meeting the course requirements AND attending classes 90% of the time, whether the absences are excused or unexcused. Your student may not earn course credit nor be promoted to the next grade level if they are not meeting the 90% rule. In order to receive credit for a final grade for a class, the student must go through the Attendance Recovery Process at your campus.
Submission of the attendance appeal must occur within 30 school-days from the end of the semester in which the credit was denied. The campus attendance committee then meets and renders a decision based on the circumstances as presented by the student and parents within 30 school-days from the end of the semester in which the credit was denied.
